When does a defect becomes a defect, or how much waste do you produce with your 100% inspection system?

When does a defect becomes a defect, or how much waste do you produce with your 100% inspection system?

In the printing process, the master image is theoretically the measure of all things.
In the real world, a certain tolerance is accepted for print results. A good example of this is font weight. In the master image, the size and weight of the font is specified. Due to pressure differences during the printing process, font weight may vary slightly because of blurring. Up to a certain level, this is acceptable and not automatically classed as a defect.
A standard 100% inspection system would indicate this deviation as a defect. This produces additional, unnecessary production waste. The only way of avoiding this with a conventional inspection system is to decrease the sensitivity level. However, this will have negative consequences since, with this machine setting, small real print defects will not be picked up by the system and will therefore be ignored.
The new FUTEC label inspection systems come with our specially developed BLUR CORRECTION function. The operator can pre-set the blur level that is acceptable, while the system will detect and display real print defects at the same time. This helps to reduce the amount of production waste on the one hand while keeping track of real print defects on the other.
To learn more about this and other new fantastic features of the new FUTEC label inspection system, please visit us at label expo in Brussels from 24th to 27th September (Booth 11A20). Additionally, we offer our customers the opportunity to arrange an appointment for their personal samples test in our office in Duisburg. To book appointments for either, please send an e-mail to: sales@futeceurope.com
